Become a Mentor
You can make a difference in the life of a child with an incarcerated parent! Become a CLICC mentor.
You'll meet once a week, for one hour, for one year, with one child between the ages of 5 and 17. CLICC mentoring typically happens in a library, afterschool program or other community site, at a time that is convenient for you and your mentee.
You will do fun literacy activities based on books the child has chosen to read with mom or dad, and help him or her write letters to the parent. As important, you will be a supportive adult for a child who may be experiencing change and transition because of the incarceration.
CLICC mentors complete a background check to work with children, are trained specifically to support a child with an incarcerated parent, and receive books and letter-writing materials to support the mentoring activities. At the completion of the one-year program, you will receive a $500 stipend as a thank-you for your service.
